Does a Tesla need scheduled maintenance?
Tesla's position is that the vehicle should generally be serviced as needed - there is no gas-style oil-change cadence. That does not mean zero maintenance. Tesla still publishes a clear Tesla maintenance schedule for consumables: tires, cabin filters, wipers, brake-fluid health checks, and (in Canada) winter brake-caliper service where roads are salted.

Tesla maintenance schedule (Model Y / Model 3)
From Tesla's Model Y owner's manual maintenance service intervals (en_CA). Model 3 lists the same core items; HEPA/carbon packs apply only if equipped.

Tesla notes heavy brake use (towing, mountain descents, performance driving - especially in hot/humid climates) may need more frequent brake-fluid checks. Do not top up brake fluid yourself. Do not open the battery coolant reservoir - damage from doing so is excluded from the warranty.
Owner checks Tesla still expects
Beyond the calendar items, Tesla lists daily / weekly / monthly checks that are part of real-world Tesla maintenance:
- Daily: charge level, tire condition/pressure, lights/wipers, unexpected alerts, brake feel (including parking brake). Because of regenerative braking, Tesla recommends pressing the brake pedal regularly so mechanical brakes dry the pads and rotors.
- Weekly (wet weather): clean Autopilot / camera lenses; monthly in dry weather.
- Monthly: washer fluid and A/C operation. It is normal for the A/C compressor to run to cool the high-voltage battery even if cabin climate is off.
- Software: install updates at the earliest opportunity - Tesla treats this as part of keeping components operating correctly.
How to track Tesla maintenance in the car
On the touchscreen: Controls → Service → Maintenance. The Maintenance Summary tracks when items like wipers and filters were last done and suggests when they are due again. After DIY or independent-shop work, reset the item so the history stays accurate for you and future owners.
