An electrical permit is required to install, alter, or add to an electrical system under the Alberta Safety Codes Act. Electric-vehicle charging is listed as permit-required work in Edmonton and Calgary. Edmonton's 2026 standalone electrical permit for installation cost of $3,000 or less is $160 plus a 4% Safety Codes Council levy ($6.40), $166.40 total - that is a municipal fee, not labour. Calgary's contractor electrical-permit fee is calculated from the city's fee schedule (not a single published EV-charger number). Calgary homeowners are not permitted to install electric-vehicle charging systems or EV energy-management systems; a qualified electrician must complete the load calculation and pull the permit. Get two or three licensed quotes - we do not publish a province-wide labour band because no utility or municipality dates one.

What drives the cost
Alberta does not publish a province-wide electrician labour schedule, so we do not invent one. Quotes move with panel capacity, load calculation, distance from the panel, and whether the charger is indoors or outdoors. Ask two or three licensed electricians to split labour, permit, and any panel work. Rebate: No province-wide program
Alberta does not run a provincial Level 2 charger rebate. The $200 annual EV tax is a registration charge, not an install incentive. Budget labour and permit separately, then stack federal EVAP on a qualifying new vehicle.
